Bing Creates Mini-Surge

According to comScore, Microsoft’s share of U.S. searches was up two points

The initial response to Bing, Microsoft's new 10-day-old search engine, is favorable.

According to comScore, Microsoft's share of U.S. searches was up two points from 9.1% to 11.1% after a week and Microsoft's penetration of daily searchers went from 13.8% to 15.5%.

Now the trick is to keep it up. It could be just curiosity piqued by Microsoft's huge ad budget. Google however was supposed to do an executive review of Bing Wednesday. Google CEO Eric Schmidt is already carping about the Windows monopoly being used to advance Bing.

By the way, online ad spending was down 5% to $5.5 billion in Q1 in the U.S, the first decline since 2002, with display ads suffering more than search.
